The proprietor of Kindle Realm and the EBook Lounge (that’s me) is a voracious reader and book lover of the highest order.  There is nothing I like more than slipping the bonds of everyday life by reading a book in my favorite genre.  I’m partial to historical fiction, history, nature and science.  It allows me to get lost in the pages and transcend the boundaries of time, geography, status and the business of the day and travel to places that wouldn’t be possible any other way.  When I stand in front of my library, I feel as though I’m looking at my own personal time machine, transporter and mind traveler all rolled into one.  I am typically reading two or three books at a time.  When time allows, I can be found curled up at home, stretched out at the park, or sitting in the coffee shop, book in hand, and lost in the moment, hence the name EBook Lounge.  But I digress.   Of course I share this passion with a lot of you out there.  Well my fellow literature lovers, over the past year or so, I have been won over by Amazon’s new eBook reader, the Kindle.

If you’re new to the new fangled world of eBooks and eBook readers, don’t worry.  You are not alone.  In fact, the industry itself is very new, with the Kindle only now coming into its own.  I researched the four most popular eBook readers on the market before settling on the Kindle as the best of the group by far!  The readers I looked at were the Sony PRS-700, the Ectaco jetBook and the iRex iLiad and there is just no comparison when the whole package is considered.  The Kindle’s laundry list of features goes a long way to overcoming some of the initial hindrances to wide acceptance of eBook readers among the avid reading crowd.

In short, Amazon has combined a well designed device with its own 230,000+ eBook library and wireless 3G access from anywhere in the country.  The Kindle itself has been endowed with an extraordinary display that looks amazingly identical to the printed page.  It is lightweight, thin and a little smaller than a notepad.   It can store in excess of 1,500 books and has a battery that can last up to two weeks.  In addition to the large eBook library you can access a wide range of newspapers, magazines and blogs.  It is these features, all wrapped into one that has lifted the Kindle far above the crowd and finally caused book lovers to pay attention.

This is the reason I launched the eBook Lounge site.  I believe Amazon has paid close attention to the needs of book lovers and developed the Kindle accordingly.  As a result, I wanted to develop a site to serve as a lounge where readers could come to learn about and purchase the Kindle along with the full complement of eBooks and accessories, as well as find the latest product news and to allow interactive feedback from visitors and fellow book lovers traveling this site.
